AM I THE ONLY GUITARIST IN THE UNIVERSE WHO TUNES HIS GUITAR IN FOURTHS??

AT THE TIME I BEGAN (1963) I FELT A NEED TO GET OUT-OF-THE-BOX.   I WAS A FULL TIME TROMBONIST AND BEGINNING CLASSICAL GUITARIST WHO HAD JUST BEEN INTRODUCED TO JAZZ BY WATCHING CHARLIE BIRD, WHO WAS ABLE TO PERFORM IN BOTH GENRES.

WITH MEDIOCRE KNOWLEDGE OF MUSIC THEORY AND TROMBONE, QUARTAL GUITAR TUNING WAS ONLY AN EXPERIMENT-THERE WERE NO METHODS, TEACHERS, PLAYERS OR CONCERT PIECES AVAILABLE.  STANDARD GUITAR TUNING (EADGBE), AFTER EONS OF EVOLUTION, WAS THE  PROFESSIONAL TUNING OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.

FOR FIFTY YEARS I’VE PLAYED THE QG, WITH SOME SUCCESS.  RECEPTIONS, RESTAURANTS, WEDDINGS AND SOME CHURCH APPEARANCES.  SINCE I HAD SEEN  SEVERAL LIVE SEGOVIA CONCERTS AND A LOT OF CHARLIE BIRD.  MY TWO CHOICES OF GENRE WERE CLASSICAL AND LIGHT JAZZ.  THERE ARE LOTS OF CLASSICAL GUITAR PIECES THAT ADAPT TO  QUARTAL TUNING, JUST BY SIMPLY CHANGING THE FINGERING.  LOTS OF INTEREST–NO CONVERTS.  I AM STILL THE ONLY QG PLAYER I KNOW (IN THE WORLD).

YOU WOULD THINK I WOULD LEARN, BUT NO. . . .  NOW I’M PUSHING THE QB, AN EVEN MORE CREATIVE STEP–JUST ME, ALONE IN THE WORLD.

SO, NOW I AM ONLY INTERESTED IN MAKING A FOOTPRINT FOR THE FUTURE, OF COURSE I WON’T BE THERE, WHEN EVEN ONE MORE PLAYER APPEARS.  WEIRD, HUH?

I’M KEEPING MY PRACTICE ROUTINE UP ON YOUTUBE, BUT THIS WEBSITE (QQ) WILL ONLY BE UP FOR ONE MORE YEAR.
